Nyami's Start

A brunette girl stepped out of her barn and looked around the small farm. This was her first Winter since getting the letter from a family friend by the name Takakura. This farm had belonged to the girl's father and Takakura. When the father died, he left all of his part (which was most of it) to his daughter, and for Takakura to help her get on her feet. This town was odd though. Minutes seemed like seconds, and there was only 10 days to a season.

The girl was new to the Forget-Me-Not Valley. She had lived in the city her whole life, with occasional visits to the farm. But enough reminiscing, she had work to be done. Let's see there was feeding the cow, watering the Winter crops (she never knew crops grew in Winter until Vesta, the local fruits and vegetable seller, had shown her), brushing and milking the cow, and...well, that was it. She was new to the farming business. The brunette headed down to relax after work. She needed a social life; Takakura told her.

As she left, a familiar voice called to her. "Nyami!", the voice called. Nyami looked and saw another brunette girl about her age running up to her. "Wait up! I finished my chores just now too!". It was Celia, Nyami's childhood friend who worked with Vesta. Celia and Nyami had lived in the same city as children. But, Celia moved away when they still were small. Luckily, Nyami's dad had the farm here so they could always visit each other. Nyami smiled at the familiar face. "Hey, Celia." She said warmly. As Celia caught up to her, Nyami grasped her jacket opening "Brr, how can you stand this cold?" She asked the smiling Celia. Celia giggled. "When you've lived here as long as I have, you adapt. So what are you going to do with your free time?" Nyami shrugged as the two friends walked the dirt path.

"I need a drink." Nyami said. Celia, who didnt drink much, nodded. The two walked into Blue's Bar, the most social place besides the Inn. Inside were the bartenders, Muffy and Griffin, the twins, Kasey and Patrick, the town drunk/hobo, Murray, and Nami, the traveler staying in the Inn. Nyami and Celia found a spot and took a seat.

After a Cherry Pink, a Moon Trip, and a Stone Oil, Nyami was feeling a little dizzy. "C-can i get a Moo Moo Milk?" she slurred a little. Griffin groaned. "I wouldnt have anymore if i were you." he said. With that, Nyami got a little angry. "Well f-forget this place!" She said, hopping/falling off the bar stool. "I-I'll go make my own Moo Moo Milk..from m-my COW!" Celia became worried. "I'll walk you home." she said, taking Nyami's arm. Nyami shook away a bit. "No no, Cel-Celia, you go and order some drinks." She got shifty eyed and stepped a bit closer, handing her an empty milk bottle. "then j-just poor them in here. A-and take it to the farm. Don't let that shmelly beggar take the shtuff...he a shly fellow." Nyami slurred, glancing to Murray. She fully turned to him. "YOU-YOU'RE SHIPPING ON MAI HARD EA-EARNED MONEY, YOU-YOU SHMELLY, SHUN BATHING HOBO!" She staggered out the door, letting it close behind her. Everyone was worried and wide eyed, then finally someone made a sound...

"Moi?"

Nyami staggered out, slipping a bit from the fresh fallen snow. What was she doing here? She was failing as a farmer. She wanted to build her father's farm up, but ended up tearing his reputation. She decided to cool off by the beach. She was just passing the colorful tent owned by Gustafa, the local "hippie". Unfortunately, Nyami didn't make it. She  staggered to the tree Gustafa would sit and play his guitar under. She put her hand up to the tree, bent over a bit, puked, then fell backwards.

When the brunette awoke, she was nowhere near home. But, she felt warm. Nyami looked around and saw a bonsai, some other weird plants, and a bunch of instruments. She heard a small laugh. "Had fun at the Bar?" She quickly sat up and saw a guy with small shades, a pointy green hat, a green coat, and small goatee. "You shouldn't be drinking that much, sister. Especially when you get exhausted from working on the farm."

"S-sorry..." Nyami said, holding her forehead. "Just not a good day. Lost it after the Moon Trip." Gustafa laughed. "Yeah, Griffin makes one powerful Moon Trip..really makes you feel like you can fly."

Nyami got up and got her jacket. "Sorry, I'll be on my way now.." Gustafa got up as well. "I'll walk you home, make sure you get there okay." Nyami got a little color in her cheeks and nodded. The two walked through the snow and up the hill to the farm. As they walked to her door, Nyami looked to Gustafa. "Thank you Gustafa". She said, reaching into her bag and pulled out a milk. "Fresh squeezed this morning." she added, smiling a bit more. Gustafa laughed and took the milk. "Thank you Nyami." He put it in his bag, then pulled something of his own out. It was an Upseed. "Found this by Turtle Lake today" he said, adding a smile. Nyami took it and put it in her bag. "Thank you again, Gustafa...for caring." The hippie smiled. "well, couldn't just leave you out in the cold." He turned and walked back down to his tent.

Nyami walked inside and was greeted by her pointy-eared dog, Max. She saw a small milk bottle on her table with a note. She picked up the note first:

Nyami,

Couldnt let you get hurt again with the alcohol. Filled up the milk bottle with a combination of crops from all seasons.
For Spring, a Watermelon: For welcoming the new year.
For Summer, a Strawberry: Something sweet for the heat.
For Fall, a Sweet Potato: For the first Thanksgiving.
For Winter, a Carrot: For some color in the season.

Nyami smiled and stored the bottle in the fridge. She found a small vase and put the Upseed in, setting it by her bedside. As she laid down, Nyami looked at the small flower and smiled. Maybe she'd try asking Takakura on how to get flower seeds on the morning, then go ask Vesta for some more crops....

Nyami had some generosity and caring to give back, not to mention a farm to save.
